* UNITE-HERE International Union is having a full day of learning how to fight and win back power in your community, campus, or workplace on Saturday August 4th. They advertise the opportunity to learn how their Union continues to beat back corporate power through individual conversations and leadership development, and brainstorm with experienced organizers on building fighting leaders in your organization. Rides from Pittsburgh and lunch will be provided. Pick up point is at the Steelworkers Building, 60 Blvd of the Allies at 8:30 am to drive to Youngstown from there. On Sunday August 5 at 6:00 pm Nuclear Savage will be playing at the Melwood Screening Room, an ethnographic expose of the peoples of the Marshall Islands who struggle for dignity and survival after decades of intentional radiation poisoning at the hands of the U.S. government. Prior to the film, starting at 5:30, shadows will be created by Pittsburghers who will replicate the haunting aftermath of a nuclear explosion by outlining bodies in chalk outside the theater. Following the film, patrons will be able to skype with peace activists from Kobe, Japan at the hour the bomb was dropped.

On Monday August 6th from 7:00-9:00 pm An event called Shadows of War will be held at The Shadow Lounge to commemorate the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The event will include spoken word, readings, and music along with Pittsburgh shadows and images from Japan.

Tree Pittsburgh presents their 5th Annual Summer Picnic in Highland Park! Join Tree Pittsburgh, Tree Tenders, and Urban Tree Lovers of All Ages on Sunday, August 26, from 1pm-6pm (Food will be served at 1:30pm) at Maple Grove Shelter on Reservoir Drive in Highland Park, next to the super playground!
