Welcome to this week's edition of Rustbelt Radio, the Pittsburgh Independent Media Center's weekly review of the news from the grassroots, news overlooked by the corporate media.
On today's show...
Rustbelt Radio is broadcast live from WRCT studios every Monday at 6 PM on 88.3 FM in Pittsburgh, and the program airs again on WRCT every Tuesday morning at 9AM.
We can also be heard weekly on the following stations:
We're also available on the internet, both on WRCT's live webstream at W-R-C-T dot ORG and for download, stream or podcast from our website at radio dot I-N-D-Y-P-G-H dot org.
Rustbelt Radio is now broadcasting bi-weekly episodes which are exclusively comprised of content from other independent media sources. We are making this change temporarily because our current all-volunteer staff cannot sustain the huge demands that come from producing a one hour original show every week.
If you would like Rustbelt Radio to continue producing original shows which feature local content each week, please consider getting involved. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us by emailing RADIO at I-N-D-Y-P-G-H dot ORG or by calling 412-923-3000.
First, we bring you this radical history lesson for March 3rd:
Thanks to Radio Rootz for that report.
"Radio for People: The Next Wave of Community Radio" is a new series of short segments produced by Pacifica Radio. The stories are part of a project to document the efforts and dreams of hundreds of communities across the U.S. that applied in October 2007 for full-power noncommercial/educational FM radio licenses. Today, we bring you the story of Susan Cole of Bozeman, Montana.
We now bring you the Women's E-news Cheers and Jeers-- a weekly summary of international news about women and women's issues.

The No Border Wall Coalition announced today that they are joining together with various organizations across the country in a call for a moratorium on the construction of walls along the U.S.-Mexico border. The groups claim that the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) border wall project is politically motivated, and that it will have no impact on immigration or smuggling, and will do nothing to protect the U.S. from terrorism. They believe the wall could have devastating consequences for the environment, the economy, and the communities of the border region. Strong resistance to the wall has come from Indigenous Communities whose land is being appropriated for it's construction. Sonali Kolhatkar, host of Uprising Radio interviewed Dr. Eloisa Tamez about Indigenous Communities suing the department of Homeland Security over the construction of the Border Wall.
Thanks to Uprising Radio for that interview.
The Zapatista Revolution is now in its 15th year. During this time, the indigenous struggle of Chiapas, Mexico has gained international attention. The ideals and practices of the Zapatistas have inspired people around the globe to act in solidarity, and have even sparked a musical movement. Today Rustbelt Radio brings you a special from Making Contact entitled "Rhythms of Zapata", which will explore how the ideas of Zapatismo are appearing in various musical genres, and are creating a soundtrack to support and inspire revolutionary struggles.
You have been listening to "Rhythms of Zapata" on the program Making Contact. This program is a production of the National Radio Project. To listen to more programs, go to www.radio project.org
Tune in next week at this time for another edition of Rustbelt Radio, the Pittsburgh Independent Media Center's weekly review of news from the grassroots. This week we've featured segments created by other independent media sources. Next week we'll have stories produced by our own local volunteers. We are now temporarily alternating locally produced stories with pre-produced stories from elsewhere every other week, as our current volunteer pool cannot sustain the demands of producing original content every week. If you'd like to hear original, locally created news every week once again, consider volunteering for Rustbelt Radio. We offer training in all aspects of radio production. No prior experience is necessary, only a commitment to independent media in Pittsburgh. Whether you have a lot of time to give or just a little, every contribution is valuable.
And now we present the Indymedia Calendar of Events:
