Amiri Baraka's 'Blues People', IMHO, is one of three 'must reads' in order to understand this country and its peoples. the other two are The Invention of the White Race by Ted Allen and Black Reconstruction by WEB DuBois. While this event is pricey, if you can get it together, or get a discount, you're not likely to be disappointed.
