On June 24th 2005, around 250 people took part in the monthly bicycle event known as Critical Mass. This months was particularly special as it was part of Bike Fest! (a ten-day festival of bicycle related events). It swerved and curved through many of Pittsburgh's finest neighborhoods, including Oakland, Bloomfield, (Gentrified) Garfield, East Liberty, Shady Side and Point Breeze where it ended in a party at Free Ride! (a non-profit recycle-a-bike shop). The event went extremely well with very little confrontation. There was the usual discontentment, and the usual 1 person who threatens to "mow everyone down", But for the most part people were supportive and happy to see such a wide variety of bicycles.
