The Pittsburgh part of the story.
by Ben Burch Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at 10:47 AM

There is a rumor about DJ Jeff Christie (which was the on-air name for Rush Limbaugh) being fired from KQV in 1973 after an arrest on Winthrop Street for lewd conduct with another man. This rumor supposedly circulated on the UPitt campus for weeks following the firing. Verified parts are that Christie was fired by KQV, that Winthrop Street was a gay pickup spot in that era, and several people have confirmed hearing that same rumor at the time. One person confirmed having heard the rumor a couple of years later in water-cooler gossip at the Richmond VA radio station where he worked. At this time, nobody knew who Jeff Christie was.

I'd be interested in hearing from anybody in Pittsburgh who can confirm or deny any parts of this.

The St. Louis story is a fake
by Ben Burch Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at 11:08 AM

One thing I forgot to mention in my previous comment; The St. Louis story was originally attributed to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and they deny that they ever published it, and demanded that several websites take the story down at the time it first circulated back in December 2002.

This guy may know the truth
by Flavlador Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003 at 12:15 PM

Here is the article from the PG

"Many baby boomers who grew up here will remember this scenario from their youth: hanging out Downtown, nose pressed against the window at 7th and Smithfield, watching the Top 40 DJs at work at KQV-AM (1410) or, as it was called back then, "groovy QV."

One kid who logged lots of time at the KQV studio window was Jeff Roteman, for whom the experience inspired a love of radio and now, a comprehensive station history Web site.

"I fell in love with radio watching them work," Roteman says of the time spent watching live radio through the studio window.

Audio Samples

You must have Real Player to hear this streaming audio.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jeff Roteman's KQV web site has a large archive of audio samples from the heydey of Top 40 AM radio in Pittsburgh. Some highlights include:

An aircheck by disc jockey Jeff Christie. The voice may sound familiar to modern talk radio fans, Jeff Christie is better known as Rush Limbaugh.

There is a nearly four minute long episode of Turkey Man

Chuck Brinkman introduces the top 40 songs from the KQV Survey of 1967 (only a couple of bars from each of the songs are included)

You can hear the classic "Groovy QV" promo on the jingles page.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jeff Roteman's KQV web site is at http://14kqv.musicpage.com/

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Roteman, 50, grew up in the Penn Hills and Monroeville area. He used to ride around on his bike with a transistor radio strapped to the handlebars, listening to the station. He religiously collected KQV airplay surveys, until a girlfriend threw them away. In the process of rebuilding the collection, he decided to put it on the Internet for the whole planet to see. The KQV site went online in 1996 and has been growing since. "It's been a labor of love."

Not surprisingly, Roteman ended up working in radio. He's music director and evening host at WIKZ-FM in Chambersburg/Hagerstown, working under the name J.P. McCartney.

A visit to Roteman's KQV Web site -- http://14kqv.musicpage.com -- is a walk down memory lane for people who remember the station in its previous incarnation as a Top 40 format. The site isn't affiliated in any way with the current all-news KQV.

KDKA-AM played music back then and ruled the ratings, but KQV's disc jockeys and high-energy sound also drew loyal listeners. It was home to a lot of local radio talent -- some of whom we still hear today. In their pre-political talk phases, WRRK-FM morning host Jim Quinn worked there as a night DJ, as did syndicated Rush Limbaugh, under the name Jeff Christie. Radio legend Porky Chedwick did a weekend show there in the early '70s.

Other notable broadcasting figures passed through over the years, including the late Bill Burns, Bob Prince and Al Julius.

The site contains a large collection of vintage audio/airchecks featuring many of the station's DJs -- Chuck Brinkman, Fred Winston, Dave Scott, George Hart, Hal Murray, Bob DeCarlo, Quinn and Christie/Limbaugh. There's a where-are-they-now section with information on past disc jockeys.

Roteman has tracked down lots of recorded station jingles, plus hit surveys from 1958 to 1975.

Beatles fans will find a list of the band's hits and the number of weeks in the local charts, from "I Want to Hold Your Hand" to "The Long and Winding Road."

A detailed timeline traces the station's history from when it signed on in 1919 through 1975, when it made the switch to an all-news format.

There's a photo gallery, plus wallpaper for computer screens picturing different station logos.

Roteman also has created smaller sites for two other Pittsburgh stations past -- WTAE-AM, at http://1250wtae.musicpage.com, and WKPQ-AM, better known as 13Q, at http://13q.musicpage.com.

The WTAE site is devoted to the station's 1970s adult contemporary format and includes airchecks by morning team Larry O'Brien and John Garry, and by Larry Richert, who's now KDKA's morning host. It also has a section about former FM sister station WTAE-FM (96KX).

13Q was a '70s Top 40 upstart that came along to give KQV a run for its money. It launched one of the first big radio money giveaways, which had people all over town answering their telephones with the words "I listen to the new sound of 13Q."

Roteman is continually adding to the sites and is looking for any station memorabilia, such as tapes and airchecks, photographs, hit surveys and current information on DJs. He can be contacted by mail at 27 Brian Drive, Carlisle, PA 17013, or by e-mail at ejjeff@pa.net."

When you find out, post it here because I'm curious.

So What if Rush is Gay?
by Prodigal Yunzer Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003 at 8:27 AM

Doesn't that make him immune from being consistent and rational in his positions? Doesn't that provide a ready made excuse for his pain pill abuse? Where is the much lauded tolerance and compassion that right wingers are chastized for failing to exhibit?

Rush isn't unfriendly to gays. If you don't like gay people, I advise you to stay out of show business.
Rush mocks political icons of the left, some of them gay (likeBarney Frank and Patricia Ireland). Rush opposes the "gay agenda'- yes I know this is a myth, but play along with me, pretend that there is an organized political movement to gain acceptance of flaming homosexuality. Lots of gays that I know are opposed to this as well. Lots of confused young men also love big fat white guys, they call them "bears", perhaps in an attempt to reconnect with a weak father figure. Maybe you contemptible little cretins want to put more than words in Rush's mouth?

If Rush is gay, this proves that homosexuals have just as much right to marry as straights do- just ask Arianna Huffington. If you call water "beer", that doesn't mean you'll get a buzz when you go to the sink and draw a freshie.
The demands for gay marriage are just part of the Bolshevik attack on bourgeiouse values.
Also, when you lie about someone, try to make it plausible and more people will believe you. Rush Limbaugh has been married three times. Twice divorced before he met his third bride on the Internet. Does it make him more of a homosexual by gratuitously adding another marriage?

Unfortunately, it's easily made personal
by A. Crybaby Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2003 at 3:54 PM

It's the same problem I have with that wartime deserting New England blueblood (not the Messiah, Dean) who has been known to dress up as at least three of the Village People (solider, sailor, cowboy) for photo ops. He's just so despicable that its easy to forget the problem is the power, not the person.
Much to my own shame, Rush is on a short list of people who warrant harrasment for their inconsistencies.
Under ideal laboratory conditions I could give a damn about sexual proclivities and drug use, athough you are much better off with real heroin than that OxyContin garbage. Scag's, cheaper, safer, and infinitely less habit forming plus it gives the half dozen US troops still in Afghanistan something to protect, since the PMC's like Vinnell and DynCorp are protecting Karzai, President of a 6 block area of Kabul. Did the taliban have to give back the 245 million dollars they recievd from the US in spring of 2001?
Purdue Pharma mapped out the areas off the US that are off of the time-worn heroin trail, and wined and dined those country docs until they started writing OC scrips for ear infections and athletes foot.
It's almost like finding out Rush makes his own moonshine. It's funny he'd get caught up in a trap set for the same people he has been hypnotizing for what seems like an eternity, by his big shit drug company buddies. Call it class war collateral damage.
As far as his sexual appetites go, when your daily dose of narcotics could kill Keef Richards 10 times over, you've got no sexual appetite, not to mention the constipation.
Marraige should be eradicated-period, not bringing new folks into that silly slave racket.

Damn Bolsheviks-Remember Kronsatdt!

Screw Kronstadt

Remember Marinius van der Lubbe. As usual, no answers to the fuckwittery, just more fuckwittery about drugs. Wow you are so cool, you know all the drug stuff inside and out. The fact is, leftists don't know whether to reach around or bite the pillow the way they "out" people. Either its totally OK to participate in any sexual behavior you desire or it is not. how can people who rail for gender reassignment coverage under private health insurance mock someone for being gay? Well just proves my point, the only clear thinking leftists are in court pretending to advocate for various whiner groups. Or they are addled with drugs. Most of them though are fuckwits.

Everybody Takes Drugs

For various reasons. My point which you stood on its head was that the rare LEFTISTS who are not dull witted usually numb the pain of being surrounded by leftist morons by self-medicating the edge off of their cognitive skills. Half their brain tied behind their back, as it were. I did not say that everyone who takes drugs is a leftist. Too bad there isn't such a pill. A pharmaceutical lobotomy. We could call it DemoContin in the US.

The Wanna Be King You Mean
by Marcia Sunday, Dec. 07, 2003 at 8:37 AM
mlhchs@iwon.com

Rush Limbaugh would love to become king, but he is a fallen pathetic so called drug addict. Now lets do the math here. 2000 pills over a 186 time frame means he was taking 10.75 pills per day. If he were really taking all those pills, he would not be able to function. In fact, he would be so medicated, that he could go out and get hit by a train, and never feel any pain.
The Palm Beach County's office of the State Attorney is looking into the doctors and pharmacies who provided him with all of his drugs.
Do I smell indictment for drug pushing?
Did Rush provide pills to others?
Are we gonna see Rush behind bars?
Oh what a Christmas present that would be :-)

Why instead isn't he doing his part to push the kinds of drugs you Leftist scumbags want, the kinds of drugs you need syringes and needles for, that might just happen to help you self loathers along in catching AIDS, (thus hastening your advancement up the ladder into Sainthood?)

Seems Limbaugh could do damage to his enemies that way, huh?

Somewhere in West Palm Beach
by Prodigal Yunzer Tuesday, Dec. 09, 2003 at 12:34 PM

Not far from Palm Beach proper, in the back of a seedy motel right on US 1, Rush Limbaugh rents the entire floor of cheap rooms for a posse of crack whores who want to get off the pipe. They slowy wean themselves from the crikketty crack with pain killers, sunshine beside the small but clean motel pool, and lots of love from El Rushbo. This effort is merely a continuation of former Palm Beachers the Kennedys charity, who for years ran a similar "halfway house" for teen aged babysitters who didn't go "all the way". I was a volunteer counselor at the Kennedy Half Way House For Semi-Reluctant Teen Aged Babysitters. The rewards of helping someone are immeasurable. Unfortunately, the Kennedys aren't wealthy enough to live on Palm Beach anymore, and someone who actually made their own fortune in the technology business tore down the Kennedy Casa Beach Rape-o unairconditioned crapshack and built a proper beach mansion. Rush picked up the Kennedy torch to help those less fortunate, and thats where the Oxys went.

by Sockins Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004 at 7:36 AM

Whether he was "pushing the pills" or hooking up his repressed friends when they needed a buzz or coercing a male stripper into the sack, he was addicted to a controlled substance. This is no less serious than a herione addiction, and far more serious than an affinity for marijuana. IF he's gay, that's his own business. That's not illegal....yet (we'll see what mein furor Bush has in store). All this really does is bring to light that Rush is just a guy with a job, and he, like everyone else has faults and pressures, and he chose an unhealthy way to deal with them. This does not make him a bad person. It's his terrible show that makes him a bad person!

I Don't Believe the Story
by Cindy Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 at 8:52 PM

I'll preface this by saying that my eyes have been opened to the truth about Rush. The truth that he lied, greatly exagerrated a lot of the time, and made fun of others. Now, having said that, I must say that the music store owner couldn't have been in, have attended colledge in 71, for he'd have just been 15 or 16. Most folks, unless they're very briallant or extrmely smart, don't go at that young an age. So, if he lied about colledge, he'd lie about Rush being gay (which I don't care whether he's gay, gray, dresses like Aunt Faye, and lives in the hay, for that matter)

Please, let's stop all this extraneous gossipping and ignoring the very important aspect of the survival of the European founders of this Republic, left us by our forefathers ("...if you can keep it,"--Benjamin Franklin). We're the civilization builders and must get down to business, not waste time in needless frivolity.
We are slaves on a world slave plantation run by the Khazar moneychangers, the Marxist warmongers, who love to divide and conquer their foes (foe = anyone who is not one of them).
Let's get a handle on things and not allow ourselves to be distracted by their games.
Our people are being genocided by aliens and their alien philosophies. We're being outbred by 3rd worlders, who leech off our hard labors.
Let's plan a.s.a.p. to rise up as one against the world's central bankers. We need freedom from the bloodsuckers so we can work the land, enjoy our families, and not be robbed of the fruits of our labors.
Stop the gossip and get to the main work of survival. You can't "love your enemies." You must oppose them before they destroy you.

Gay or straight, who cares. . . he's just a dick

Although picturing the conversation following a Rush Limbaugh erotic encounter with another man is most amusing:

"Hey Rush, you little bitch," hollered Bill. "Bring the towel over here and mop up my santorum!"

"There go the liberal Clintonites again and their entitlement society," muttered a battered and sore Limbaugh, clearly displeased it was his turn to do the mopping. "Not like it's my froth."

This is for the lefty conspiritists... When the vast right wing conspiritists got word of the story, we took great paynes to move the radio station from Missiouri to California. Good luck finding the paper work, we have connections that take care of that sort of thing.

Rush Games!!!!
by GiveMeMyAmericaBACK Friday, Apr. 15, 2005 at 1:48 PM

The sad reality is millions of people listen to Rush the air bag and actually believe it. The only thing I can figure is in the middle of Kansas the only frequency that works is AM.

While I can only take very small doses of him, there are a number of games you can play and have some fun with this jerk.

Dial up the web site and let the games begin – http://www.bigoteddrugaddictbloatedegomaniac.com

Game 1 – I love myself
No one and I mean no one loves Rush more then Rush. In this game count the number of pictures he has of himself on his web site. Favorites include it’s Rush peering into a globe or the black board idiot university series. So before opening the web site guess how many pictures of Rush are on the main page. There is usually at least six, closest to the actual number wins the EIB “Pave the whales” tee shirt

Game 2 – Clinton did it
No matter what the issue is, no matter what crime was committed by some right wing politician there will be the stock, “but what about Clinton”. Example: “Yes we all know Tom Delay is a crook, but Clinton screwed Monica” This one is easy, first one to find it gets to turn the radio dial.

Game 3 – Fun with co-workers
Start a discussion with a conservative co-worker and see how long it takes for Rush’s wisdom to coming spewing out like petro-dollars into the Halliburton bank account. Examples: Culture of life/death, there is no such thing as man-made global warming and so forth. Winner gets to feel sorry for all the poor saps who believe when Rush the multi-millionaire call anyone on the left an elitist.

Game 4 – Who will be on next Bush or Chenny?
This one is easy, guess when Bush or Chenny will be on the one show in America that has done more to separate America into Red and Blue states then any other human. Winner: sorry no winners only losers when an administration not only condones the current “us vs. them” political climate, but embraces it.

Something is Wrong
by J OBRIEN Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005 at 3:31 PM

The quote from the article below, stating that KFBK was a top 40 radio station where Rush worked in high school, is flat out wrong. KFBK is based in Sacramento, CA, and although Rush worked there before going national, he didn't work there in high school. If this info is false, how can we trust the rest?

"Sanders says that privately, Limbaugh was very sensitive and caring man, but that he was furiously angry that KFBK, the top 40 radio station he worked while still in high school would not offer him a full time job."

I was gorgeous in those days, however Rush had absolutely no emotional connection whatsoever towards any woman alive. It was fine to have been his friend....however, all of his siblings know the truth. No one can say anything because now they are scared to death of the outcome.
