From May 2 to May 5, the evening (7:30 p.m.) screenings at Pittsburgh Filmmakers’ Melwood Screening Room include Aleksandr Medvedkin’s Happiness (1935), with live musical accompaniment on the gamelan; Sergei Livnev’s Hammer and Sickle (1991), celebrating the démodé or the historical trash of the Soviet era; Feliks Mikhailov’s Jolly Fellows (2009), the transgressive performance of drag queens; and Vladimir Mirzoev’s Boris Godunov (2011), the clash between popular culture and the classic.
