PA Senator Rick Santorum Blasted for Anti-Gay Remarks
04/22/2003
Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum was criticized on Monday for homophobic remarks he made during an interview with the Associated Press released on April 21.

Asked to comment on a case involving so-called sodomy laws currently before the Supreme Court, Santorum said "If the Supreme Court says that you have the right to consensual (gay) sex within your home, then you have the right to bigamy, you have the right to polygamy, you have the right to incest, you have the right to adultery. You have the right to anything."

Although not surprised by Santorum's remarks, many are outraged that they were made from his position of authority. Human rights groups and Senate Democrats are calling for his resignation from his leadership post as Chairman of the Senate Republican Conference, the third highest position in the GOP. PA residents in particular are also being encouraged to contact his office to register their protest, with some Pittsburghers organizing a [Article]protest to take place May 1st.
